Super Eagles' World Cup jersies voted best in the world

Popular English news website, mirror.co.uk (The Mirror), has rated Nigeria’s 2018 World Cup kits the best among the 19 so far unveiled by the teams that are going to the mundial in Russia this summer

The news portal did a ranking of  the kits of all the 19 countries who have unveiled their World Cup kits and picked the Nigerian jersey as the best from the lot.

“It’s incredible, frankly, and is bound to turn us all into Super Eagles in the summer.”

The Super Eagles World Cup kits were unveiled in London by the manufacturer, Nike in London on Wednesday.

Some of the  other countries that have unveiled their jerseys are hosts Russia, Nigeria group foes; Argentina and Croatia, as well as Belgium, England, Switzerland and Uruguay.

Kelechi Iheanacho, Wlfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi and singer, Wizkid, on Wednesday in London, modeled Super Eagles new kits as they gear up for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi says the national team players would fall in love with the dazzling new jerseys for the Russia 2018 World Cup as he led the younger generation of Eagles players to the unveiling of the kits by Nike in London.

The dazzling bright green and white home shirts was launched by Arsenal forward, Alex Iwobi, alongside the duo of Leicester youngsters, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi.

In the 1 minute 20 seconds clip, Ndidi, Mikel, Iwobi and Iheanacho were shown giving their verdicts on the attire.

“I can see the players going crazy over this one,” Mikel said when he was shown the national side’s home shirt, in Nigeria’s famous dark green with an eye-catching neon logo.

Arsenal star Iwobi, told Nike’s official website; “I grew up in England, but Nigeria is my homeland. When I scored that goal, the players were dancing, the fans were playing trumpets and beating drums… there was just so much passion and energy.

‘It is always an honour to wear the white and green. To compete this summer is not just our dream, it is also the dream of our fans. Together, we all represent Naija.’

The kit manufacturers Nike said they wanted to ‘tap into the attitude of the nation’ with the design and aimed to build the kit based on the identities of the players.

Nike’s Nigeria shirts are part of a collection which features Fast Fit Vapotknit technology to aide the athlete’s performance.

Despite the mixed reaction, the kit’s similarity to the iconic shirts worn by the nation’s Golden Generation in their maiden World Cup campaign in the United States in 1994 should earn it major points for nostalgia among Super Eagles supporters.

Parents of Tottenham star Dele Alli , in tearful plea for the star to accept them back into his life

The estranged parents of Tottenham Hotspur and England star, Dele Alli are pleading for the superstar to accept them back in his life, after they had abandoned the footballer.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder is born to a Nigerian father, Kehinde Alli, a multi-millionaire businessman and British mother, Denise who both abandoned him when he was still a child.

He was born in Milton Keynes, Bucks, in April 1996 just over a year after his parents first met in a nightclub. At the time Kehinde was studying for a Masters at De Montfort University.

He and Denise, then a full-time mum of two, married after a whirlwind romance and broke up three years after Dele was born.

In this heartbroken interview with Mirror, the estranged pair came together to speak about the ordeal in a desperate bid to rebuild their relationship with their son, who earns £60,000-a-week.

Dele’s mum Denise who couldn’t contain her tears narrates how she now cries herself to sleep at night over the ordeal, while his father explains that only thing missing in his life is his first-born son.

Kehinde, 47, told the Sunday Mirror: “I just do not understand what we have done wrong.

He refuses to speak to me and it feels like he’s been taken from us. But I won’t give up on getting him back.”

Dele’s mum Denise, 53, added: “I’m a very miserable person because I get so sad that Dele is missing out on his family and we’re missing out on him.

“I want to be able to hug him and let him know we all love him to bits.

“I’m not interested in his money, I’d love him the same if he worked in McDonald’s. We just want our son back.”

According to reports, the former couple have not been able to see him since he signed for Tottenham in February 2015.

Recalling him leaving, Denise said: “He was in great spirits and said, ‘I love you mum’. I had no idea that would be the last time I would see him. It still leaves me shocked.”

It was also reported that Ali was best man at his dad’s second wedding to Lola in 2006, at that time, he was living with his dad in Houston, Texas.

At the age of 11, Ali returned to England to leave with his mom in Milton Keynes, where he started his football career with junior side City Colts.

Kehinde says: “It was hard for me to let him go but I knew it was the best thing for him and his ambition.”

Denise added: “When he was about 13 Dele began training at MK Dons five days a week. So for convenience he began staying at his best friend’s house during the week, before coming home at weekends. It was hard to let him live away from home, but we didn’t have a car and I was finding it hard to get him to training myself.

“It has been said that I was suffering from alcoholism and I gave him up because I couldn’t look after him, but that is a lie. I wanted to give him the best chance of achieving his dream, but he was still my son and I was there for him whenever he needed me.

“He was never adopted by his friend’s parents – I would not have allowed it. My kids are my world.”

The heartbroken mother also recalled the last time she tried to talk to him outside Tottenham’s White Hart Lane stadium after a match there last year.

Denise recalls: “I didn’t have a ticket for the game but I went to the ground because I wanted to try and see Dele.

“I waited outside after the match and when Dele came out I quietly said to him. ‘Dele… it’s me… your mum’.

“He didn’t stop. He just looked at me, said he was busy and drove off. I was in tears, it was heartbreaking.

“Some fans who had overheard asked if I was really his mum and why he was treating me like that. I told them, ‘I just don’t know’.”

“When I got home I had a call from a man who said he represented Dele. He accused me of shouting to Dele, which I didn’t, and said if I tried to do it again I’d be banned from the ground for life. It was horrible.”

Kehinde also explained his own encounter, saying he repeatedly made the 5,000-mile journey to London from his home in Houston, trying to reunite the family. He said he bought tickets for a couple of Spurs games home and away just so he can see Dele in the flesh and support him, including at the club’s 1-0 win over Middlesbrough earlier this month.

Kehinde says: “Not being able to see or speak to him hurts a lot. Myself and his brothers watch all his games on TV and they ask me, ‘Why won’t he see us?’

“Dele has apparently told his sister I was never there for him growing up, but I can’t understand that. He lived with me for years and I have always been there for him both emotionally and financially.

Up until he was an adult I paid for every holiday he ever went on and all his costs. I bought him his first car when he passed his driving test. Now he is turning his back on the family who love him.”

Kehinde adds: “I know some people will think we just want him for his money, but it couldn’t be further from the truth. I’m very wealthy in my own right and I don’t need a penny from Dele.

“I just want to be here for him and for him to know that I love him.”

Denise, who still cuddles Dele’s childhood Chelsea FC bedspread to feel close to him, says: “Every night I say a prayer asking for God to bring him back to us. I dream about him coming home.”

Last season, Dele decided to remove his surname ” Alli” from the back of his jersey, saying he felt “no connection” to the name.

Mesut Ozil explains why he sign new Arsenal contract

The Arsenal playmaker has signed a new three-year deal at the Emirates.
Mesut Ozil has revealed the one thing that finally convinced him to sign his new Arsenal contract .

Negotiations over a new deal for the German dragged on for well over a year and the expectation was that Ozil would move on in the summer.

But, just five months before his deal was due to expire, Ozil decided to extend his stay in north London - penning an extension which will keep him at the Emirates until 2021.

The deal will see the former Real Madrid man become the highest paid player in Arsenal's history, with £350,000 a week.
But when explaining why he had decided to sign on at the Emirates, Ozil insisted in the end it all came down to how he felt in his heart.

"It's been one of the most important decisions of my footballing career and that's why I had to think hard and talk with everyone who's important to me," said the 28-year-old.

"Good things take time! In the end I let my heart decide. As I always said, I feel at home here and I'm highly motivated to achieve big things in the next few years. Once a Gunner, always a Gunner!"

The former Real Madrid man finally put Arsenal fans out of their misery , confirming the news they had all been waiting for by posted a picture of himself signing the contract with Arsene Wenger on Instagram.

Ozil's former contract was due to expire in the summer and many expected the 29-year-old to follow Alexis Sanchez out of the Emirates exit doors.

The playmaker has always maintained he is happy in London but it was known that many of Europe's top club were keeping tabs on his contract situation.

Reports in Germany have suggested that Ozil rejected moves to three different European giants, as well as a money spinning offer from China before committing his future to Arsenal.

SportBild claim that the attacker turned down interest from Manchester United, Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain to stay at the Emirates.

He also turned his back on an offer from Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande which would have seen him pocket an incredible £22 million a year.

The news come as a huge boost to Arsene Wenger following on from the high profile additions of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during the January transfer window.

Speaking about the possibility of securing an extension with Ozil, Wenger suggested last that the signs were positive of a breakthrough in negotiations.
"Our intention is to keep Ozil at the club ," said the Arsenal boss.

Ozil signed for Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2012. The assist he produced for Nacho Monreal's goal in the 3-1 defeat at Swansea was his 49th in an Arsenal shirt, more than any other player has clocked up during that period in the Premier League.

Lawyer to the the football icon revealed this.
Daily Mail reports that Maradona was giving an interview to Venezuelan TV station ‘TeleSur’, when he was asked what he thought of the US President.

He told the TV channel that “Donald Trump is a chirolita.”

“chirolita” is a slang and common insult in‎ Argentina that refers to people who are under the orders of others as puppets.

The football icon had needed to travel to Miami, Florida, to face a trial involving his ex-wife Claudia Villafane, who had bought property under her maiden name despite being married.

At the time of the interview, the 57-year-old was in the process of applying for a visa to the States, which was subsequently denied.

Maradona’s lawyer, Matias Morla said that following Maradona’s choice comments, he told the ex-player, “After this, I said I’m going to have to represent you in Miami instead.”

It is not the first time Maradona has been barred from the United States.

During World Cup USA ’94, the Argentina captain was sent home after testing positive for cocaine.

How Messi Forced Neymar Out Of Barcelona - Dani Alves Opens Up

PSG superstar, Dani Alves has spoken out about how Neymar ended up leaving the world famous football club because of Lionel Messi.

It has been claimed that Neymar, the Paris St Germain forward left Barcelona in order to escape the shadow of Lionel Messi and increase Brazil’s chances of winning this year’s World Cup.

Reuters reports that this claim was made by his club and country team mate Dani Alves.

Neymar became the world’s most expensive footballer in August when he completed a 222 million-euro ($276 million) transfer from Barcelona to PSG.

The 25-year-old finished third behind Messi and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2017 Ballon d‘Or.

“I think he’s (Neymar) up there with (Lionel) Messi as the most influential player in world football. The thing is, he had to come out of his shadow a little,” Alves told FIFA’s website. (www.fifa.com)

”Playing with someone as unique as Leo is the most incredible thing that can happen to you, but there’s always that doubt in your mind if it’s you that really has the quality or if it’s him.

“It was important for Ney’s own development and for Brazil for him to follow his own path.”

PSG have opened an 11-point gap at the top of Ligue 1, with Neymar contributing 17 goals and 11 assists.

However, Alves believes Neymar’s main objective this season is to deliver PSG’s first Champions League title.

“It’s our main goal. It’s what Neymar was thinking when he left Barca and it’s what I was thinking when I left Juventus. That’s what moves us,” he added.

“We’re ready to compete and the question of whether that preparation leads us to victory or elimination is going to depend on how we work as a team.”

PSG resume their European campaign on Feb. 14 in the first leg of a mouth-watering last-16 tie against holders Real Madrid.

Former World Player : George Weah sworn in as president of Liberia

From Pitch to Presidency, Former international football star George Weah has been sworn in as president of Liberia on Monday , the first peaceful democratic transfer of power in the West African country in more than seven decades.

Weah won 61.5 percent of the votes in December’s election run-off, beating outgoing vice president Joseph Boakai who garthered 38.5 percent of the ballot.

Voter turnout was 55.8 percent, or just over 1.2 million people, according to the election commission.

The former world footballer of the year succeeded Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Africa’s first elected female president.

Weah entered politics after retiring from football in 2002 and run for the presidency in 2005 losing to Sirleaf.

The last peaceful transfer of power between two democratically elected presidents took place in Liberia in 1944, when president Edwin Barclay was replaced by William Tubman.

The swearing-in ceremony at a stadium near the Liberian capital, Monrovia was attended by more than a dozen African and foreign dignitaries, including heads of state from Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Mali, Ivory Coast and Guinea.

Many Liberians regard the 51-year-old as a hero for his incredible rags-to-riches tale. He was born in a slum in Monrovia, but found fame in international football.

Weah has promised to eradicate corruption in the country of four million people and bolster the weak economy.

Monrovia is highly dependent on exports of iron ore and rubber, which have recently plunged in prices. The country is also trying to overcome the effects of the Ebola outbreak, which left more than 4,000 people dead.

Liberia is one of the poorest countries in the world with 80 percent of the population living on less than $1.25 a day, as reported by Al Jazeera News.

Ahme Musa Leave Leicester City

Ahmed Musa is heading back to former Russian club CSKA Moscow after a turbulent time at Leicester City in the Premier League, according to Nigeria coach, Gernot Rohr. as reported on fcnaija.com

The coach has received knocks for insisting on calling up the player even when he had been demoted to the Leicester City development side.

“Ahmed Musa is going back to CSKA in Russia, that is good news, because they like him there very much and he will get to play more,” Rohr said.

Barcelona and Brazil legend, Ronaldinho, has retired from football

- His brother who doubles as his agent Roberto Assis confirmed the report
- Ronaldinho, 37, won the Ballon d’Or and the UEFA Champions League in a glittering career.

Barcelona and Brazil legend, Ronaldinho, has retired from football as confirmed by his brother Roberto Assis who doubles as his agent.

Ronaldinho, 37, who won the Ballon d’Or and the UEFA Champions League in a glittering career, has not played for a professional team since leaving Brazilian Seria A side Fluminense in 2015.

Last July, Ronaldinho said on the sidelines of a friendly in Chechnya that he was “too old” to return to action.

Dinho's brother and agent, Roberto Assis, confirmed the news of the Brazil star's decision in an opened column for the Brazilian media outlet O Globo, revealing plans for farewell tribute events after the 2018 World Cup – three years after Ronaldinho’s last club game.

Assis said: “He has stopped, it is ended,”
“Let’s do something pretty big and nice after the Russia World Cup, probably in August.

We will do various events in Brazil, Europe and Asia and, of course, we are arranging something with the Brazilian team as well.”

Ronaldinho’s played as an attacking midfielder, winger and forward throughout his career. He started his footballing career with Grêmio in his native Brazil, before moving to Europe with Paris Saint-Germain in 2001.

Ronaldinho had a star performance at the 2002 World Cup which drew interest from Europe’s elite clubs, and he joined Barcelona in 2003.

His five-year spell at the Camp Nou was the pinnacle of his club career, where he won two league titles, the 2005 Ballon d’Or and the 2006 Champions League.

Ronaldinho who was tagged the 'golden boy' of European football reportedly lost focus at Barcelona and was sold to Milan as Pep Guardiola replaced Frank Rijkaard as manager.

The playmaker also disappointed both fans and teammates at the 2006 World Cup and missing out on selection in 2010, despite a resurgence in form that helped Milan win the Serie A title in 2010-11.

Ronaldinho returned to Brazil at the end of that season and finished his club career at Flamengo, Atlético Mineiro and Fluminense, as well as a brief spell in Mexico with Querétaro.

He earned the last of his 98 Brazil caps against Chile in April 2013.

Ex-Ivorian Star Emmanuel Eboue Commits Suicide

The former Ivorian International star, Emmanuel Eboue is reported to have committed suicide in London.

Eboue, is believed to had struggled with long-term depression. He was found dead in his sister’s North London home according to Police.

Ex-Ivorian football star Emmanuel Eboue did not leave a note behind and he was found hanging in the room on a fan hook, Police said in a statement.

Police declined to comment whether it was suicidal or a perpetrated act but assured the public an investigation is ongoing.
Emmanuel Eboue had received offers of legal advice in his bid to overturn a court ruling which was set to leave him homeless in the wake of his bitter divorce.
The ex-Arsenal defender, 34, previously spoke to the Mirror of his fears for the future , following his acrimonious split from wife Aurelie.
The former Galatasaray star , a fortnight ago revealed how he lost all his fortunes, going from a rich football star to a poor man who was contemplating suicide.
Eboue made millions of pounds at Arsenal and then more than £1.5million a year at Turkish side Galatasaray. However, the football star said he had lost all he had to his wife Aurelie who he claimed also handled his finances, adding that “whatever she told him to sign he signed.
After their divorce, the court awarded all his fortunes to his wife in a divorce settlement and he was ordered to also give up his house in London to the ex-wife.
The 34-year old and his wife lived there before he bought a mansion – which Aurelie has now put on the market.
Eboue had also surrendered his expensive cars to his wife, and before his death, he relied on London public transport. He often slept on a mattress on his living room floor.
As if all these were not enough, Eboue was also said to be suffering from an undisclosed medical problem.
The 34-year-old had served a one-year ban for failing to pay a former agent but got back into football recently, agreeing a deal with Cypriot side Turk Ocagi Limassol.
However, his move to Cyprus was not plain sailing and his agent Tekin Bircini said his client was
facing ‘medical problems’.

Arsenal 2 - 2 Chelsea

Marcos Alonso's close range finish in the closing stages of the Premier League showdown at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday was overturned by an added timeequaliser

by Hector Bellerin as unused substitute Alex Iwobi and his Arsenal secured to a 2-2 draw against Victor Moses' Chelsea in an electrifying four-goal thriller.

It was an even contest at the break. Chances at both ends, but it remained all square. Terrible finishing from Alvaro Morata and a superb goalkeeping by Thibaut Courtois defined an entertaining, yet surprisingly goalless 45 minutes.

Jack Wilshere's first Premier League goal in more than two and a half years broke the deadlock after 63 minutes to put Arsenal in front. Eden Hazard pulled Chelsea back on level three minutes later from the spot, following a penalty decision by referee Taylor for a foul on the Belgian in the Arsenal area.

With six minutes left on the clock, substitute Zappacosta got it on the right, beat his man and fired across goal where Alonso, unmarked, arrived to side-foot past Cech.

Having been rested for the win over Stoke on Saturday, Eden Hazard returned to play in attack with Alvaro Morata.

Andreas Christensen, after three games out ill or on the bench was back in the centre of defence

with Gary Cahill returning to the left of the three and Toni Rudiger making way.

The midfield is the same which played in the Boxing Day win over Brighton so there were places for Cesc Fabregas and Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Arsenal brought in Ainsley Maitland-Niles for injured Saed Kolasinac on the left. Laurent Koscielny failed to recover from injury in time so Rob Holding came into the Gunners' defence

Mesut Ozil was passed fit and so was preferred to Alex Iwobi. Alexnadre Lacazette and Alexis Sanchez kept their places.

Mbappe: Ronaldo was my hero but that ended

The striker is touted as a potential successor to the Real Madrid star at the top of the world's game, but he hopes to outshine him this season

Kylian Mbappe says Cristiano Ronaldo was his childhood hero, but that is no longer the case.

Mbappe was given the chance to team up with Ronaldo at Real Madrid this season but rejected them to join his boyhood club Paris Saint-Germain in a deal that will cost €180 million when made permanent at the end of the season.

The 19-year-old's impressive displays for Monaco last season and PSG this term have seen him named a potential successor to Real Madrid star Ronaldo as one of the world's biggest stars.

Instead, the two will go head-to-head in the last-16 of the Champions League when PSG take on Madrid, and Mbappe is going with the intention of outshining the Portuguese.

"He is a hero from my childhood and it was amazing to meet him when I visited Valdebebas," he told  Marca .

"But I am a competitor and a person who is very competitive and all I want to do is win, win, win. So it doesn't really matter who is in front of us, we want to win.

"I admired him when I was younger, but that ended. Now I go to the Bernabeu to play and to win.

"From someone who has won five Ballons d'Or you can learn a lot. He's a great player, but I have those here too. Neymar is here and I think he is very similar and is at practically the same level as Cristiano Ronaldo. I learn from Edinson Cavani as a goalscorer too."

The France international has benefited from playing alongside Neymar and Cavani since joining from Monaco, and he has noticed the Brazilian star is not as selfish as many believe.

"People on the outside see a Neymar on the pitch, but that's not him," he said.

"People see him doing tricks and dribbles and think that he is only trying to enjoy himself, that he's selfish and only thinks about himself. But when you share a dressing room with him you realise that it's not the case.

"It's true that he's a very kind person, that he is interested in others. He's very nice, and he plays for the team first. It's true that his football is all about dribbling and skills and you aren't going to ask him to stop because he does it very well.

"There's nobody who dribbled like him in this aspect of the game, he's a footballer who can win us titles and we have to take advantage."

Former Best Footballer Of The Year: Says he’s confident of victory in presidential election

A former football star, George Weah, and his supporters are brimming with confidence as Liberians head to the poll  Today in a run-off election to choose a new leader for the West African country.

“You know, I’ve been in competitions – tough ones, too – and I came out victorious. So, I know Boakai cannot defeat me. I have the people on my side,” he said to cheering supporters as he rounds off campaign for the polls.

The run-off election was delayed for weeks after the country’s Supreme Court ordered a halt following allegation of rigging and fraud during the first round of voting.

Mr. Weah is running against the country’s vice president, Joseph Boakai, for the country’s top job. During the first round of voting Mr. Weah scored the most votes with 38 per cent of the total votes cast.

Mr. Weah, who has waited for 12 years to become the country’s leader, is within reach of achieving his dream but analysts are being cautious of his chances despite his overwhelming support from the country’s most youthful population.

During the 2005 run-off election, many analysts had chosen Mr. Weah as the winner but he suffered a shocking defeat to Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, the first woman president in Africa.

Despite being snubbed by the country’s elite, who think Mr. Weah, a kid who grew up poor but rose to worldwide fame as a football star, is unfit to lead the country, Mr. Weah’s supporters believe this is his best chance of becoming president.

Mr. Weah has also received a subtle support from an unlikely source as well. He was seen in public with Mrs. Johnson-Sirleaf last Thursday. The appearance is seen by most analysts as significant as the incumbent has attracted public criticism for her refusal to campaign for Mr. Boakai, with whom she had run the affairs of the country in the last eight years.

The Ballon D’Or winner has also received the endorsement from Nigerian televangelist, Temitope Joshua, who is believed to one of Africa’s most influential preachers.

The fight against corruption and the economy are the main talking points of the election.

Liberia suffered a brutal civil war in the 1990s. It took the intervention of a regional West Africa force nicknamed ECOMOG to restore peace in the country.

In 2014, Liberia, alongside neighbouring Sierra Leone, was most devastated by the Ebola pandemic. Over 10,600 people were killed as the disease swept through the nation.

Galatasaray reportedly signs Emmanuel Eboue as Assistant Coach of U-14 Team

Emmanuel Eboue, former Arsenal star, has reportedly been signed on by his former club Galatasaray as the assistant coach of their under-14 team, Sports Illustrated reports.

The footballer has been in the news recently after he revealed to Daily Mirror that he’s hit a rough patch, including losing a divorce battle to his ex-wife, Aurelie, to whom the court has asked he sign all his assets.

Messi shines as Barcelona beat Zidane’s men 3-0 in El Clasico

Barcelona’s march towards the 2017/2018 La Liga title continued on Saturday, as they defeated  rivals Real Madrid 3-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

Real, fresh from their Club World Cup triumph in the United Arab Emirates, needed a positive result to stay in touch with Ernesto Valverde’s men.

However, it was Barca that struck first through Luis Suarez, after a fine passing move.

The hosts went down to 10 men, after Dani Carvjal handled the ball in the area. Lionel Messi stepped up and smashed the penalty past Keylor Navas.

Bayern Munich legend Muller scored 525 times for the Bundesliga club in 572 appearances between 1965 and 1979 while Messi's total has been achieved in 608 appearances for the Barca.

Messi has also scored more El Clasico goals than any other player throughout the history of the famous fixture. He has now scored 25 goals in 37 El Clasico games, with Real Madrid legend second with 18, while Cristiano Ronaldo has 17.
